Under the direction of the Nursing Supervisor, directs and assists providers in evaluating total nursing care and functions in the assigned unit by established philosophy, policies, and procedures and as demonstrated by the approved competency assessment guidelines. Responsible for providing the same responsibilities within the department as assigned and /or required as demonstrated by the approved competency assessment guidelines. Responsible for demonstrating the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient served, including demonstrating knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span. Must be able to identify and categorize each patient's age-specific grouping of needs, such as those for infant, adolescent, or geriatric patients. Assists in the provision of health education and disease prevention services in the community as needed and/or required. Responsible for compliance with other requirements affecting the Medical Center, such as State/Federal regulations, TJC, DSHS standards, and Compliance Improvement (CPI) Standards.
High school graduate or equivalent. Graduate of an accredited school of vocational nursing with a current license to practice as a vocational nurse in the State of Texas.
1. Must have current CPR certification.
2. At least one year of nursing experience with supervisory responsibilities in all departments.
3. Prior experience in all nursing areas preferred.
4. Prior experience in patient education is preferred primarily in diabetes, hypertension, and other community-sponsored health education programs.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred. Ability to communicate proficiently with individuals of diverse backgrounds and economic levels.
